Soul Source and our products were recently shared by Dr. Lauren Streicher on her Podcast, Dr. Streicher’s Inside Information: THE Menopause Podcast.
The special program was titled “Out of Practice Does Not Mean Out of Business! A Guide to Sex After a Long Hiatus.” Topics covered included how to predict - yes predict! - if your intercourse will be pleasurable or painful, how to apply lubricant to the right place, and the many benefits of a vaginal dilator assessment.
On the October 5th episode, Dr. Streicher discussed the complications that can occur when a women tries to have sex again after a long hiatus. Dr. Streicher told her audience how she uses vaginal dilator therapy to help her clients prepare for sex after years or even decades of no sex.
When seeing a client who is preparing for sex for the first time after a long hiatus, Dr. Streicher will begin with a vulvar exam to check the tissue outside the vulva and inside the vagina. She looks for lubrication, elasticity and for signs of estrogen starvation. She will then check the pelvic floor muscles and for the final step, she will perform a vaginal dilator assessment. She will begin by inserting the smallest size dilator and work her way up in sizes until the patient feels discomfort. If the largest size that is comfortable is smaller than the size of the patient’s partner’s penis, then she will recommend the patient begin doing dilator therapy so that they can work their way up to the size of their partners. She’ll regularly ask “is your partner a yellow or a purple or a blue?” referring to the different sizes available on this website.
Dr. Streicher told advocates that her patients take their time in returning to penetrative sex. She recommends using a high quality lubricant and using a vaginal dilator before trying sex for the first time.
